DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING



OVERVIEW:

The Department of Community Health Nursing actively participates in training to General nursing and midwifery, undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students both in theoretical and clinical area. The curriculum planned according to norms prescribed by Apex body and University. Students are exposed to both urban and rural community and they were trained to carry out family assessment, identify individual, family and community health needs, provide care based on priority and educate community people on various health issues. The department actively participates in all national health programmes implemented by Government of India and State government. The department has been conducting health screening camps, school health programme, anganwadi programmes. The department laboratory has an excellent infrastructure to aid teaching and learning activities.



ACTIVITIES:

  • Conduct surveys and carry out physical assessment of different age groups including antenatal and postnatal assessment, nutritional assessment, socioeconomic and environment assessment and identify the health needs and problems of the family.

  • Provide comprehensive care to family members based on prority.

  • Participate in activities of PHC such as Maternal and Child Health clinic, Immunization, health education and referral services.

  • Participate actively in national health programme most importantly in Immunization Programme, Malaria, TB, and HIV/AIDS programmes in collaboration with government and public health sector.

  • Conducting school health programme, Anganwadi programme and community Nutrition pogramme in adopted villages.

  • Conduct need based individual, group and Mass health education in the family, community, and schools.

  • Carry out Nursing Reserch in the field of community health nursing.

PROGRAMMES: The Community health Nursing Curriculum is designed to the following Nursing Programme.

  • Ist Year and IIIrd Year General Nursing and Midwifery.

  • 2nd Year and 4th Year BSc Nursing.

  • 2nd Year P.B.BSc Nursing.

  • 1st Year and 2nd Year M.sc Nursing, Speciality Subject.

CLINICAL FACILITIES: Training of General Nursing and Midwifery, Undergraduate and Post graduate Nursing Students at Urban and Rural communities of affiliated Primary Health Centres.
